Manufacturing

  • What standard are the threads of your products?

The standard thread of general use in our accessories is manufactured according to UNE-EN ISO 228, known as BSPP, a parallel type thread. In some cases, as in flexible connections with tapered thread, the thread follows UNE-EN 10226 (before ISO 7).

On our blog you will find a wide technical description of different sorts of threads.

Note: special manufacturing of other thread’s standards can be done upon customer request.

Materials

  • What type of material do you use when manufacturing your products?

In the manufacture of our accessories we use brass with certified quality according to the following rules:

    • For hot forgings: brass CW617N UNE-EN 12165
    • For mold castings: brass UNE-EN 1982 CB753S
    • For bar machined parts: brass CW614N UNE-EN 12164

For taps, which are a type of mold casting pieces, the material used is following rule UNE-EN 1982 CB755S.

  • What’s the brass’ composition of your fittings?

Depending on the manufacturing procedure and the specific brass used the proportion of brass components are as follows:

    REGULATION COMPOSITION
    UNE-EN 12165 CW617N CuZn40Pb2
    UNE-EN 1982 CB753S CuZn37Pb2
    UNE-EN 12164 CW614N CuZn39Pb3
    UNE-EN 1982 CB755S CuZn39Pb1
  • Are brass accessories manufactured by rmmcia suitable for potable water?

Materials used for manufacturing RM brass fittings fulfil rule UNE –EN149101 – Annex A of composition of metal materials in contact with water for human consumption, for which lead content is limited at a maximum of 3,5%. Moreover, for forged brass fittings lead content is below 2,2% according to DIN 50930-6 and according to D.M.174 of 06/04/2004.

  • What pressure can support your products in working conditions?

In general, normal maximum working pressures considering temperature for brass threaded fittings are summarized in the following table:

    Maximum Pressures Temperatures
    Sizes 30ºC 60ºC 110ºC
    up to 1" 25 bar 25 bar 16 bar
    from 1.1/4" to 2" 25 bar 16 bar 10 bar
    from 2.1/4" to 4" 16 bar 16 bar 10 bar

More or less severe conditions are acceptable or recommended depending on each item, the characteristics of the union, the sealing means and the tube considered. Feel free to contact us for any further clarification required (by describing the application, the fluid and the conditions of pressure and temperature).

  • Is the same brass than bronze?

No, although both are alloys mainly based on copper, bronze is an alloy of copper and tin as a second main component while brass is an alloy of copper and zinc as the second main component.

Catalogue products

  • What’s the weight and dimensions of your products?

Each product has a range of dimensions named with a given reference. The information is displayed on the website and in the catalogue you can find more specifically the weight of each reference. Downloadable from the website there’s also a technical sheet for all the threaded fittings, containing a drawing with all levels. For any further data please contact us.

  • What’s the difference between PEX and multilayer fittings?

PEX and multilayer fittings are of same composition and manufacturing, both for polyethylene plastic pipes, but the ones for multilayer include a PTFE joint (also a nickel plated nut). This is because flexible pipe for which is used contains an internal layer made of aluminium and joints avoid effect of electrolyse, by impeding contact of aluminium with brass from the accessory. To know more about PEX and multilayer pipes, please visit the article on our blog: PEX and multilayer.

  • How do I install the fittings?

In the catalogue there is interesting information at each family of products about the installation. Also in our Youtube channel there are tutorials which explain within a few minutes how to install correctly our fittings with very practical advices.
